The Thanksgiving Joy
Ps. 30:5
For His anger is but for a moment
His favor is for life
Weeping may endure for a night
But joy comes in the morning.
V5 (a)
For His anger is but for a moment
Hebrew moment- a very short space in time
So good is God, that he cannot delight in either the depression or ruin of his creatures. When he afflicts, it is for our advantage, that we may be partakers of his holiness, and be not condemned with the world. If he be angry with us, it is but for a moment; but when we have recourse to him, and seek his face, his favor is soon obtained
*Ps. 103:9- He will not keep His anger forever
Ps. 103:17
*Is. 26:20
*Is. 54:7-8
Is. 57:15-16
*2 Cor. 4:17- momentary light affliction- producing the eternal weight of glory
*Ps. 23- valley of the shadow of death is only a shadow
V5 (b)
His favor is life
Favor = Delight OT:7521 ratsah -to be pleased with, to be favorable to, to accept favorably
Ps. 16:11- in Your presence is fullness of joy
Ps. 36:7-9
Ps. 63:3- Loving kindness is better than life
Rev. 22:1- Pure River of God flows from His throne
Rev. 22:17- Come and drink of His River!
John 10:10- Abundant life.
Life in the favor of God: -- The return of God's favor to an afflicted soul is like life from the dead, -- nothing is so reviving. All our bliss is bound up in God's favor; and if we have that, we have an infinite treasure, whatever else we may want.
- Our natural life is from God's favor. In Him we live, move, and have our being; He secures us from innumerable evils; He gives us bread, and water, and clothing, and health, and strength, and intellect.
- Our spiritual life is from the favor of God.
- Our eternal life is from the favor of God. By that favor we become entitled to heaven by the merits and righteousness of Christ; by that favor we are meetened for heaven through regeneration and sanctification; by that favor we are brought to heaven, through all the trying pilgrimage of life. O what views will the redeemed spirit have of the favor of God then!
V5 Weeping may endure the night
Weeping begins in the evening and sometimes last the night. When weeping comes, it is only to lodge for the evening; but singing will surely come in the morning.
Ps. 6:6-9
Ps. 56:8-11- put my tears in Your bottle
*Ps. 126:5-6- those who sow tears shall reap joy
Is. 38:3-5- I saw your tears
Matt. 5:4- blessed are those who mourn
*Jn. 16:20-22- Your joy no one will take
2 Cor. 7:9-10
V5 Joy comes in the morning (shouts of joy)
It is a surprised a welcome guest- clarity comes in the morning. Newness comes in the morning. There is a different smell, a different feel, a different perspective.
Joy- a shout of rejoicing, shouting, loud cheering in triumph, singing- joyful shouting.
Ps. 46:5
Hosea 6:3
*Zep. 3:17- literally says that God will dance over His beloved people with singing or a shout of joy.
Time to walk in mercy and not to walk in commendation
Time to walk in the truth of God and not in the shadows of our failures
Time to embrace the joy that comes in the morning, knowing His anger is but for a moment.

Sermon: 11/23/08
God will never put His people to shame!
Joel 2:26-27
26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied,
And praise the name of the Lord your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;
And My people shall never be put to shame.
27 Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel:
I am the Lord your God
And there is no other.
My people shall never be put to shame.
Isaiah 45:5-7
Isa 48:10-11 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
11 For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it;
For how should My name be profaned?
And I will not give My glory to another.
Ezek 20:14-15
But I acted for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.
God brings us to into impossible situations and demands that we have faith in HIM, everything humanly possible is in a moment impossible. For it to be solved it has to be God- His Name is at stake! His glory is at stake... so go out on that limb and speak and commit God at His Word- you will never be put to shame.
Moses
Red Seal, in the valley; mountains on every side- red sea in front and pharaoh approaching from the rear; God is on trial in Egypt.
- God honor is at stake in Egypt. God's Word is on trail. What if God does not show up?
- We find Moses and his people in a hopeless situation. God tells Moses that that should go on. God speaks in the face of the impossibility! What happens if God does not show up- they will never believe Him again.
Ex 14:3-4
3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.' 4 Then I will harden Pharaoh's heart, so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord." And they did so.
Ex 14:13-20
13 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
Moses is committing God to His Word- you promised to deliver, you promised to set free.
15 And the Lord said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen."
19 And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. 20 So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.
- Conditions always get worse right before you leave Egypt. Exodus 5.
Joshua
- March 7 days, on the 7th day march 7 times and the wall will tumble down. Joshua and his army is committing God to his word.
Shadrack, Meshach and Abed-Nego
- Good miracles impress for a week, God did that a week ago- and know 3 men put on trail, and God is put on trail. God showed up so His people would not be put ashamed. God showed up to bless and communion and fellowship with these 3 men.
Peter and John
- Confront a man who for years had been in front of the temple waiting to be healed. For years people had passed him by and his condition had not changed. For years he had been the same, than one day Peter and John show up.
- Peter commits himself to a miracle. That man has never walked. What if Peter had never shown up- God's honor is at stake.
God's honor is at stake. We are all going through the fires. We are being brought into a situation that God has to have a people that believe in an absolute miracle. Hold Him to His word- god will answer- God starts that miracle.
I saved you in front of people in front of a crowd, because My Name is at stake. Delivered you from sin in front of the multitudes, in front of our family, and in every demon in hell.
Psalms 37:1-6
A psalm of David.
1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
When we look abroad we see the world full of evil-doers and workers of iniquity, that flourish and prosper, that have what they will and do what they will, that live in ease and pomp themselves and have power in their hands to do mischief to those about them. When we look within we find ourselves tempted to fret at this, and to be envious against these scandals and burdens, these blemishes and common nuisances, of this earth. We are apt to fret at God, as if he were unkind to the world and unkind to his church in permitting such men to live, and prosper, and prevail, as they do. We are apt to fret ourselves with vexation at their success in their evil projects. We are apt to envy them the liberty they take in getting wealth, and perhaps by unlawful means, and in the indulgence of their lusts, and to wish that we could shake off the restraints of conscience and do so too. We are tempted to think them the only happy people, and to incline to imitate them, and to join ourselves with them, that we may share in their gains and eat of their dainties; and this is that which we are warned against: Fret not thyself, neither be thou envious. Fretfulness and envy are sins that are their own punishments; they are the uneasiness of the spirit and the rottenness of the bones; it is therefore in kindness to ourselves that we are warned against them. Yet that is not all; for, 3. When we look forward with an eye of faith we shall see no reason to envy wicked people their prosperity, for their ruin is at the door and they are ripening apace for it, v. 2. They flourish, but as the grass, and as the green herb, which nobody envies nor frets at. The flourishing of a godly man is like that of a fruitful tree (Ps 1:3), but that of the wicked man is like grass and herbs, which are very short-lived. (1.) They will soon wither of themselves. Outward prosperity is a fading thing, and so is the life itself to which it is confined. (2.) They will sooner be cut down by the judgments of God. Their triumphing is short, but their weeping and wailing will be everlasting.

#69: Spirit of Meekness IV
Description:James 4:6, "God resists the proud, but give grace to the humble." br>
Meekness is strength and courage under control, coupled with kindness. It is a restraint of power for redemptive purposes, restraint of power for a higher cause of love. It´s cultivating servant spirit. It is the opposite of pride. This earth is a testing ground for meekness by how we respond to different trials. Everyone on the earth suffers, but the Redeemed have the opportunity for suffering to count for something. For the redeemed even suffering can be used of God to bring fruitfulness in our lives. Understanding how to grow in meekness in the midst of mistreatment produces the opportunity for dependence, faith, and trust in God.

#66: The Spirit of Meekness-II
Description:If Jesus said, "The meek shall inherit the earth," I think that demands we seek to understand what the Lord is saying to us here. God is calling His Bride, the church to rise up to His power and strength like it was never before. But first He tells us we must understand a few things first to be able to accomplish greater miracles in His name. He calls us to walk in meekness which is the power under control. It is the restraint of power for the accomplishment of a higher cause and a willingness of God to bear reproach for the sake of love. Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus describes Himself as meek and gentle. He calls us to be yoked with Him, for there is so much to do for His kingdom as we follow His lead.
